A veteran with over 20 years of service in the US military, Tim Penix currently serves as a health coach for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) in Sepulveda, California. Working with veterans dealing with chronic disorders ranging from diabetes and hypertension to persistent pain and substance dependency, he advises them on setting health goals, adopting beneficial lifestyle changes, and taking control of their conditions. Tim Penix also teaches several group courses, such as Healthy Living and Mindful-Based Stress Reduction, which help educate veterans on approaches to self-management of chronic illnesses.
Among his prior professional experience, Tim Penix guided individuals in reaching their health goals and instructed various exercise classes as a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor at Newbury Park Athletic Club. He also completed the Integrative Medicine Health Coach Professional Training Program at Duke Integrative Medicine and studied the use of motivational interviewing techniques in the field of health behavior change. During his military career, Mr. Penix served as an enlisted and non commissioned officer man in both the Marine Corps and Army National Guard and further advanced his career and received his commission as an officer where he handled assignments ranging from intelligence to medical service.
A former lacrosse player, Tim Penix belongs to the Pacific Coast Lacrosse Official’s Association and referees high school and youth lacrosse matches. He also mentors lacrosse officials-in-training and has coached lacrosse at the high school level.
